Part Type: Piston Ring
Design and Construction
Ring Type: The piston ring set typically consists of multiple rings with different functions. There are usually compression rings and oil control rings. The compression rings are designed to seal the combustion chamber, preventing the leakage of combustion gases into the crankcase. The oil control rings are responsible for regulating the amount of oil on the cylinder wall to minimize oil consumption.
Materials:
The rings are commonly made of high-strength alloy steel. This material provides excellent mechanical properties such as high tensile strength and wear resistance. Some rings may also have coatings to further enhance their performance. For example, the compression rings might be coated with chromium or molybdenum to improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
The spring-loaded elements (if any) in the oil control rings are usually made of corrosion-resistant spring steel to ensure long-term reliable operation.
